One of OX3's prime partners in China has developed a carrier tooling method that utilizes a center pocket hole of just 0.40mm. Their test case was a die that measured 0.462mm in width, 2.90mm in length, and 0.38mm in thickness. Part tolerances were ±0.005mm. Their engineering team developed a carrier tape with pocket dimensions of 0.57 × 3.10 × 0.48mm. Given that the width (Ao) of the carrier tape was only 0.57mm, it was critical to reduce the diameter of the center hole. For added stability, a raised crossbar measuring 0.03mm was designed to better secure the die in place, preventing it from rolling to the side or flipping completely, and also to prevent the part from sticking to the cover tape during SMT processing. OX3 applauds efforts like these with our treasured partners across the globe.
