Standard procedure in the semiconductor industry is to supply components in carrier tapes on reels that measure 7" or 13" in diameter, (178mm or 330mm). The larger reels are supplied in every width in which carrier tapes are available. Reels are generally blue, black, white, or clear. Other colors can be ordered in larger minimum runs.
In one typical application for these reels, OX3 takes several line items that arrive on 7" reels, splices them together, and returns a single line to the customer on a 13" reel. This enables the client's production team to run their printed circuit board assembly operation with fewer set-up changes.
