THE CASE OF THE CRACKED MENISCUS

The protective coating on any ceramic radial capacitor is designed to drip down over the attached leads in order to encapsulate the internal component frame.  It is called a “meniscus”.  Our client discovered, upon close inspection, that some of these were cracking during the taping operation.  They commissioned OX3 to examine possible causes and determine a course of action.

We designed a new set of drums that would readily release the leads as they progressed onto the carrier substrate. The resulting design resolved the problem and production resumed with full compliance.
